1. General principles

The Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) helps employers make safer recruitment decisions by processing and issuing DBS checks for England, Wales, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man. DBS also maintains the adults’ and children’s Barred Lists and decides whether an individual should be included on one or both lists and barred from engaging in regulated activity.

Using the DBS helps us to assess the suitability of applicants for positions of trust. The Bowlby Centre complies fully with the DBS Code of Practice regarding the correct handling, use, storage, retention and disposal of relevant information.

We also comply fully with our obligations under the General Data Protection Regulation and other relevant legislation pertaining to the safe handling, use, storage, retention and disposal of disclosure information.

2. Requirements

2.1 All students on the training are required to have a fresh, enhanced DBS certificate or have an existing enhanced DBS certificate (for both the child and adult workforce) already registered on the DBS update service. All students requiring DBS certificates are required to liaise with our administrator to apply for their DBS through us. No student can start their infant observation and/or client work without an enhanced DBS. Applications are made online through UCHECK and will require an electronic identity check. Students are expected to pay for their own DBS.

2. Storage, access and handling

The Bowlby Centre does not store any personal documents collected during the DBS certificate application process. All personal information collected during the DBS application process is submitted by The Bowlby Centre to the QCCA via online application service, UCHECK. The QCCA sends DBS certificates directly to students. The Bowlby Centre does not retain DBS certificates.

3. Usage

Any information provided during the DBS certificate application process is only used for the specific purpose for which it was requested and for which the applicant’s full consent has been given.
